China Mobile:
China is the worlds largest
mobile communications market. The number of mobile
subscribers in China surpasses the number of
fixed-line subscribers. Into 2005, China Mobile is

the only provider of CDMA mobile services. Its
principal activity is GSM and CDMA mobile
services, but it is the only operator licensed to
provide all telecommunications services. Listed on
HKSE and NYSE, the company is controlled by Unicom
Group, a government controlled public company
listed in Shanghai. The company is focused on its
fast expanding 2.5G CDMA 1X service and launched a
dual-mode GSM-CDMA system.
China Telecom group:
State-owned China
Telecommunications Corporation and its
subsidiaries are called China Telecom Group.
China Telecom Group is China¡¯s fixed-line
incumbent and one of the largest fixed-line
providers in the world. It operates mainly in 21
provinces southern China. Its operations in 10
northern provinces were given to China Netcom in
2002. Since September 2002, its regional
operations are being progressively acquired by
its listed subsidiary China Telecom Corporation.
Whilst its POTS voice telephony is remaining
steady, the company is developing its revenue
growth engines, namely its Little Smart PHS
mobile service and its ADSL broadband Internet
services.
